The role of safety valves in air compressors
The safety valve is a special component among all parts of the air compressor, as it is not only a switch, but more importantly, it can play a role in protecting the safety of the equipment. For pressure equipment such as air compressors, safety valves play a crucial role in maintaining the safety of air compressor production.
1. Working principle of safety valve
The closing component of the safety valve is in a normally closed state under external force. When the pressure of the medium inside the equipment or pipeline exceeds the specified value, the valve will be opened to discharge the medium outside the system to reduce the pressure of the medium inside the pipeline or equipment. Safety valves belong to the category of automatic valves, mainly used in boilers, pressure vessels, and pipelines, playing an important protective role in personal safety and equipment operation. According to relevant regulations, safety valves must be regularly calibrated at least once a year.
2. What are the calibration methods for safety valves? There are generally three types of calibration: 1. Pressure boosting jump method calibration: the safety valve is installed in the system, and the system artificially boosts the pressure until the safety valve jumps to observe the opening pressure of the safety valve. This calibration method can cause significant damage to the sealing surface of the safety valve and is relatively more dangerous to operate compared to others. 2. Online instrument calibration: It is to measure the downward spring force acting on the safety valve through external force, which can be used to calculate the opening pressure of the safety valve. This method generally does not affect production, and the system pressure does not need to be changed. Its detection speed is relatively fast and convenient, but it cannot detect the sealing performance of the safety valve. 3. Offline verification of the verification table: It is necessary to install the safety valve on the verification table, and then use the verification medium to open the safety valve. The opening pressure can be confirmed by observing the pressure gauge. However, this method cannot consider the calibration of back pressure safety valves and safety valves for high or low temperature media.
3. Not all devices are suitable for safety valves when they cannot be used. When the pressure increases rapidly and the discharge speed of the safety valve cannot exceed the pressure growth rate, or when strict sealing is required, or in special industries, the material inside the container may cause the safety valve to fail. For example, if the material inside the container contains a lot of solid particles, the safety valve will not seal tightly after being reseated. Or the materials inside the container may contain highly toxic or other properties that pose a threat to public safety. These situations are not suitable for using safety valves alone and require the use of rupture discs or a combination of safety valves and rupture discs.
